My Story
Yoga came into my life when I was 30 after a busy career in the hair and beauty industry and in my early years of motherhood. I was pretty exhausted, overwhelmed and my physical health was in decline. I needed to take some radical steps towards my own self-care and began attending local yoga classes.
It felt like it was the first time in my life I learned how to properly relax and for a short time put down my mental load - I was hooked!
Through Yoga I felt like I was home, It provided me with the deeper connection to myself I needed, the space in my life to feel present and well, and a wonderful community of likeminded people to support me.
Yoga philosophy has taught me how to look at life through a different lens - a lens that emphasises a deeper connection to the world and teaches how to cultivate compassion and nourishing values. It gave me an endless list of practical tools to support me with life’s ups and downs.
The Birth of Down to Earth
As my busy career in the hairdressing industry faded and during those early years of becoming a Mum I made the shifts I needed to live a more holistic way of life and more in line with my values, appreciating the flexibility of working part time around my family I began to study and work within the health and wellness industry.
Exploring my ignited passion for nutrition I began cooking for local Yoga retreats and creating content for social media and an online fitness platform.
After a difficult period in my life I surrendered to a deeper calling and decided that Yoga also needed to become a way of life rather than a weekly class. In 2019 I set about searching for a teacher training to deepen my practice.
Living on the Suffolk coast and close to Norwich I was incredibly fortunate to find what I was looking for in the heart of the city, and went on to study for 2 years with Swami Atma Gyanam Saraswati at The Yoga Tree.
From here, Down to Earth Yoga was born!
My mission, passion and soul calling now is to help as many people as I can have access to and achieve their optimal health and well being through the many tools and practices that Yoga has to offer!
We all deserve to feel at home in our own body no matter what, I feel extremely privileged to be able inspire and guide you with the teachings passed on to me from my many dear teachers, and from my own heart to yours. These practices are a wonderful exploration to help you find and access your true nature.
My Training
From early 2020 I had and still have the privilege to learn and study with Swami Atma Gyanam Saraswati from The Yoga Tree Studio in Norwich. I completed 2 full years of yoga education under his guidance, including one year dedicated to the ancient and rarely taught teachings of Chakra & Kriya Yoga.
It has been the highest honour to learn & embody the ancient teachings of the Yoga tradition through his continued mentorship.
As a life long learner my studies have long since continued and I have explored many different elements of the Yoga tradition including ayurveda, mantra, sound & kirtan, as well as various courses and retreats.
Most recently, I am proud to have completed a post graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy with Nikki Jackson (Yoga Focus). This course was taken over a two year period and included trainings from a variety of expert teachers & lecturers, practical training as well as case studies and retreats at the Mandala Ashram in Wales. I completed my course with a detailed Research Project on the topic of Grief, something close to my heart, exploring value of yoga therapy working within this field.
Yoga Therapy sees a return to how Yoga was traditionally taught in a one to one setting and can be applied as a complimentary therapy to support many health conditions. It is specifically tailored to an individual’s needs, lifestyle and body. This person centered, therapeutic approach is aimed at moving people towards their individual health goals in a collaborative and creative way. This approach fosters curiosity, conversation and enquiry catering to the individuals unique circumstances and abilities.
Yoga Therapy seamlessly blends the ancient wisdom and philosophy of Yoga, with modern neuroscience and psychology, creating a truly holistic and multi dimensional approach towards optimal health. Becoming a qualified Yoga Therapist has provided me with the depth of knowledge and the medical lens needed to reach and share Yoga with a much wider audience.
